Naujoji Akmenė is a small town in the north-west of Lithuania, but it gets a steady flow of short-term visitors: engineers and installers working at the Akmenė Free Economic Zone (FEZ), auditors and suppliers visiting local companies, new employees who arrive before they have found a long-term flat, and relatives visiting family. If that is you, this guide explains where to stay, how to book, how to get here and what to do if a short trip turns into a longer project.
Quick summary
Likinija has two furnished short-term apartments in Naujoji Akmenė, bookable online from 1 night with secure payment and instant confirmation. For stays of 7 months or more, a long-term lease from €200/month is usually the better deal.

2. Getting to Naujoji Akmenė
| From | Distance | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Riga airport (RIX) | ~140 km | ~1 h 45 min by car |
| Šiauliai | ~55 km | ~45 min by car, ~1 h 30 min by bus |
| Vilnius | ~330 km | ~4 h by car |
| Naujoji Akmenė centre → Akmenė FEZ | ~4 km | ~8 min by car |
Most international visitors fly into Riga, which is closer than Vilnius, and rent a car at the airport. There is no train station in Naujoji Akmenė; without a car, take the train to Šiauliai and then the bus. There is no direct public transport to the FEZ, so if you will be working there, plan for a car, a colleague's lift or an employer shuttle. Our FEZ relocation guide has more detail on routes and daily life.
3. When a short trip becomes a long project
Commissioning work and new jobs often last longer than planned. Many people use a short stay as a base while they look for a permanent home:
- book a short-term apartment for the first nights;
- view two or three long-term apartments in person;
- sign a lease and move in – from first contact to key handover usually takes 1–3 working days.
Our long-term terms are simple: contracts from 7 months, rent from €200 per month, a deposit of one month's rent, and utilities paid separately. Contracts in English are available. See the current apartments in Naujoji Akmenė and apartments in Venta.
4. Coming as a team?

5. Practical tips for your stay
- Shopping: the main supermarket chains are in town; larger stores are in Šiauliai.
- Language: English works at most FEZ companies; in shops and offices a translation app helps, especially with older staff.
- Winter: from December to February expect −5 to −10 °C and snow. Bring warm clothes, and make sure a rental car has winter tyres.
- Free time: the Karpėnai quarry lake, the Venta river and the lakes around Akmenė are close by. See Discover Akmenė (in Lithuanian).
